Smokers need family support, professional advice and proper medication to quit the habit, doctors have noted.
The Bureau of Health Promotion (BHP) said its second-generation program aimed at getting smokers to quit offers consultation and treatment by medical personnel, making the process much easier than thought.
A survey on Taiwanese people’s attempts at quitting showed that almost 70 percent have tried to kick the habit at least twice but failed, according to the BHP under the Cabinet’s Department of Health (DOH).
Many of these smokers think they can rely on their “will power” to quit smoking, the BHP cited the survey as indicating.
More than 83 percent of respondents to the survey said they think family support is important, but almost 60 percent of them said their family members do not believe that they will ever succeed, according to the BHP.
